Pre-Facebook Milford

Nancy Herman, her family and I go way back as they say. Her father, Mister Herman to me, was my Principle at Milford High. I swear he was the most intelligent and charming authority figure in my life. Now if this was a movie I was writing I would cut to Vice Principle Pug Lund throwing me out of school, just like Priciple Micheal Vanacore did at Central Grammar. All the while in the background John Mellencamp belted out his Authority Song.

Suffice it to say that I knew Nancy Herman in the pre-Facebook era, even before the 'Like' button was invented. I love it that Nancy was the only one of my Facebook friends that 'Liked' my posting of a 70s graphic "I never expect my friends to be interested in what I do."

I don't believe any of us realize the influence local newspaper have had on who we are and how we can't have an objective view about politics and gender.

From "Ma" Fecker of The Milford Star story to the "Moslems Threaten To Kill" headlines of the Milford Citizen local newspapers create the foundation for some of our prejudice. You can see why some people would fear and hate Iranians and you could imagine what people would do to "Ma" Fecker's name nowadays.
